MAP-21 Questions and Answers
| Question: | What is the effective date for the VE requirements of MAP-21? |
| Answer: | The effective date is October 1, 2012.
All projects authorized for Federal-aid funding on or after that date must comply
with the MAP-21 VE provisions. |
| Question: | What changes were made to the projects for which VE analyses are required? |
| Answer: | VE analyses are no longer required for non-NHS bridge projects or for projects delivered using the design/build method of construction. |

Links to maps showing the updated National Highway System (NHS) as called for in MAP-21 are provided below. The NHS was expanded to include urban and rural principal arterials that were not included in the NHS before October 1, 2012.
